At Indooroopilly Toastmasters, you will learn how to speak with confidence, clarity and persuasiveness. Your greatest learning will come from preparing and presenting speeches, at your own pace, from your Pathways Projects.
Most of your speeches will be 5-7 minutes, which is enough time to develop your topic. The principles learned in a 5-7 minute speech will apply to a 40-minute formal address or a 2-minute impromptu speech.
Each project is designed to develop your speaking skills one step at a time and builds on what you’ve learnt in the previous project. You’ll begin with ‘The Ice Breaker’ speech. Since it will be your first speech before the club it will be based on an easy subject- yourself!
Over the course of your Pathways Program you will learn the importance of organisation, speech purpose, proper word usage, body language and vocal variety. You’ll also learn how to do research, use visual aids, speak persuasively and inspire others.
After giving the prepared speech, you will be evaluated and offered feedback on your strengths and suggestions for improvement. Evaluations have one purpose: to help you become a more effective speaker.
“People will listen to a person with a message if they know how to deliver it” Dr Ralph Smedley, founder of Toastmasters.
